Data for Impact (D4I) assisted Botswana in mapping the referral network serving adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Gaborone and Kweneng East who are at risk for acquiring HIV. Effective referral among providers is critical to meet all needs for these women, which may include HIV testing and treatment, PrEP, family planning services, and care for survivors of gender-based violence.

We worked with a local research partner to conduct the organizational network analysis for the DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe) program, funded by the United States President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Our study also included focus group discussions and participatory mapping with AGYW in the two districts to understand their care-seeking biases and preferences for services. D4I designed the study, trained the data collection team, piloted the study tools, and supervised the partner in data collection. D4I led data analysis and wrote the study reports with the partner. This study has helped Botswana strengthen its referral network for DREAMS services in these districts.
