The evaluation methods included a review of program documents, interviews with stakeholders, primary data collection through health facility assessments, and an analysis of existing routine health data from the last five years. The work provided insights into PHSP’s successes and challenges in strengthening the private health care system, and its effectiveness in increasing access to services in key areas of tuberculosis, malaria, HIV, family planning and maternal and child health through private health facilities.

Findings of this evaluation will inform future design of private sector engagement strategies to improve the health system involving. Amidst the COVID-19 environment, D4I engaged a local research firm experienced in remote data collection methods to assemble quantitative and qualitative data and employed remote training approaches and conduct interviews online or by phone.
