Data for Impact Wins USAID’s 2023 CLA Case Competition for Work in Moldova By harnessing the power of locally-led CLA, D4I has created a cultural shift in using data to improve child outcomes in Moldova. (DRMC); Justus Uzim, Project Management Specialist (M&E), USAID/Nigeria; Paul-Samson Lusamba-Dikassa, Lead Country Consultant, Data for Impact D4I’s Work in Moldova Wins Global Impact Award D4I has worked with the Chisinau Municipality to map the needs of nearly 3,000 children and to implement the ‘Help Me to Help You’ campaign, which provided information on available municipal services to over 315,300 refugees and citizens hosting refugees in their homes. Following the mapping activity, services provided by Chisinau Municipality were adapted and provided to address these needs, including support for legal documentation and asylum application, medical services, educational services, child protection services, social assistance services, and community services such as daycare centers, extracurricular activities, camps, and youth centers. Op-Ed: When hell breaks loose in heaven D4I at the International Maternal Newborn Health Conference (IMNHC) 2023 Presenters: Jacqueline Minja, Research Scientist, Ifakara Health Institute; Donat Shamba, Senior Research Scientist, Ifakara Health Institute Learning Labs in Bangladesh In September 2022, Mamun Ibn Bashar, Statistical officer, Health System and Population Studies Division (HSPSD) of icddr,b, presented on “Tools to estimate mortality: Pros and Cons,” sharing the nuances of estimating mortality (child and adult) using a number of methods. Mamun participated in previous D4I-led workshops in 2022 on understanding BDHS datasets and longitudinal data analysis. Using Group-Based Trajectory and Prediction Modeling to Understand Under-Five Mortality In addition to identifying important predictors of under-five mortality, this study yielded important findings pertaining to grouping the countries by mortality rate. All 21 LMICs in the group with the lowest mortality rates have already achieved Sustainable Development Goal Three, which aims to provide adequate healthcare and end preventable child deaths. Encouragingly, the 18 countries in the group with the highest mortality rates showed the highest declines in under-five mortality rates over the study period. Referrals are necessary for the full functioning of DREAMS because the program crosses many sectors.
